Final Fantasy Week #2- Let’s Talk About the FF7 Remake

Let’s Talk About the FF7 Remake that’s to be released once they finish it…

So recently it has been released that the combat in the FF7 will not be ATB turn based which of course I’m sadden by but many others have been not kind to the developers for, which then lead the developers to also release the fact that the remake will be, wait for it… Episodic! Now a lot of people  were outraged (again) so game developer Yoshinori Kitsae, who by the way was the game director of FFVI (1994), Chrono Trigger (1995), FFVII (1997), FFVIII (1999), FFX(2001), and the producer of FFX & FFXIII… among other things has stated in a blog as to why it’s going to be episodic.

With FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, we have the opportunity to go beyond the story, world and experience of FINAL FANTASY VII in ways we’ve always dreamed of – from the depths of Midgar to the skies above the Planet. The multi-part format enables us to expand the original story and turn it into an epic experience

From this and the rest of the blog as well as the experiences of the games Kitsae has been apart of one should look at this not only skeptically but instead of anger with actual hope. He is the producer of Final Fantasy 13… a series I personally detest but each of the (currently) three games in the series are different and they tried to improve as the series went on and in some cases vastly.

I do worry that they will alter the Materia system which is one of the best magic systems in any RPG…

But I understand from a creative standpoint who wants to go back to something they already did and just make it prettier? Except maybe say George Lucas? Plenty of creators want to return to creative worlds they created or touched on but always differently and sometimes vastly different. So the game being episodic I’m okay with, I want them to make the game even larger with more lore and more characters, more enemies and just deeper.

Originally the game was “episodic” if you will count it came on several discs and even more for the PC version which I had both & played both you just didn’t have to pay anything other than for the one game, in that criticism of them trying to get more money I understand but they are pulling a Final Fantasy 13 series and we should wait to see the quality of the first episode…

Of course the characters are altered/updated and they seem to be going for a full Advent Children style and they showed the majority of AVALANCHE, and I’d have to say I have little qualms I’m not too keen on the way Wedge looks, I feel both he and Barret should be bigger… Then you have Jessie who is extremely attractive. Of course that does make me wonder if they will go even further into Biggs & Jessie’s relationship. Heck more on all of AVALANCHE would be cool.

As I previously mentioned the combat is going to be different I see this as their attempt to open the game to newer players, it looks like to me to be in the Final Fantasy 13: Lightning Returns combat engine and if it is I think it will be fun, as honestly that’s the only thing about that game I liked. But we don’t yet have the game yet so be skeptical about all of it but at the same time give it a chance once it comes on.

Honestly I’m looking forward to seeing how the first episode goes.
